A Woman’s Place: Language and Culture Alive in Argentina”
Marisol Gerritsen- West Orange High School
My project during this trip to Argentina in July will be to research the role that plays the woman in Argentina literature and art, including the music and the Tango dance. I will research about women in the Argentinian history & culture. It will include about people’s customs, religion, arts & crafts, (handicrafts) and food.
I want to share with my high school students that are in my classes of Spanish 2, 3 Honors and AP Spanish Literature & Culture. We read in AP Spanish Literature & Culture authors like Jorge Luis Borges, Julio Cortazar and Angelina Storni. I want to include other women’s writers as Luisa Valenzuela and other women writers to have more variety while studying their prose, poetry, stories, novels, narrative.
I will include the Argentinian culture in the rural zone, the “Gauchos” and will take pictures to create an e portfolio (Wix.com), with them to explain the life of the gauchos in the Argentinian culture.
The Zapp family- 22 years of traveling the world.
I contacted them through Facebook, WhatsApp and I will try to interview them, (the Zapp family). They told me that they were going to meet with me if they are in Buenos Aires. They travel around the country to make conferences. They wrote some books about the travels around the world. They are in YouTube too.
“An Argentinian family identified as the Zapp family has been travelling around the world since the year 2000.The family including Herman and Candelaria and their four children have driven a total of 362,000 kilometers (225,000 miles) and have covered five continents and 102 countries in their 1928 Graham-Paige.”
I will create more ideas in my Argentinian Project as I experience the culture through traveling there.
It is most to illustrate first to my students, about Argentina, the role of the Argentinian women in literature, history and other areas and include it in my curriculum and spread the word to other schools in our district. I will try to incorporate the studies in our curriculum at County level.
