My Story

About me:

I am a Spanish Teacher since 2008 at West Orange High School, Winter Garden, Florida. Currently, I teach Spanish 2, 3 Honors and AP Spanish Literature and Culture.

I am originally from Puerto Rico, born and raised. I come from a nuclear family- my dad Angel was an electrician, a great family supporter in our family of 5, my mom Luz was an English teacher for 43 years in Puerto Rico. I have two sisters, Lizette and Rosana. Lizette lives in New Hampshire and Rosana in Puerto Rico with their own families. I always love the way we were raised in Puerto Rico and the family unity.

I studied at the University of Puerto Rico in Rio Piedras and got a B.A. in Secondary Education-Drama in July 1978.

I worked as a Drama teacher for 2 years until I left in 1980 with the Peace Corps in Costa Rica and stayed there until 1984. Came back to Puerto Rico, left to Paraguay in 1985 and came back and worked as a teacher in Puerto Rico until 1988 where I left to San Francisco, California.

I met my husband in Costa Rica and we got married in Reno, Nevada in 1988.

My husband of 34 years his name is Alex and he is from the Netherlands. So, I have an international family. I have three children, two of them born in California, Ian & Gaby; and one born in Puerto Rico, Guillermo. I have three grandchildren, Arabella from Ian and Genixa, Lucy and Joey from Gaby and Joe. Guillermo and Ciara don't have kids yet.. Ian lives in New Jersey and Gaby and Guillermo in Florida.

We came in 2004 from Trinidad and Tobago where we worked with Habitat for Humanity International for 8 years as International Partners my husband and I. We lived there with our three children and we had an stipend to live while we were volunteers on that organization. We helped communities to have affordable housing and we started in Dominican Republic in 1996. This was the most extraordinary experience in all my life.

In 2004 we came to Florida and the rest is history, we ended living in the area of Winter Park First, Chuluota, Oviedo and finally in Winter Park, our current residency.

One of my goals is to pursue a Master Degree in UCF and keep working for some years until retire and keeping good health and positivism. Maintain my family united and live in harmony,
